KETAMBE VOLUNTEER PROGRAM
Establish a volunteer program for Ketambe so young teachers, researchers and university students can donate their time and skills to Ketambe.
The activities will involve
- English lessons
- Conservation lessons
- School facility improvement
- Educational games
- Cleaning rubbish and recycling
- Planting fruit trees and other reforestation/agroforestry projects
- Home improvement to allow families to have a room for homestays
- Making products with locals to sell
For those people with certain professional skills, eg: teacher, qualified builder, veterinarian, etc; an individually targeted program focussed on your core skills can be arranged to increase your impact during your tenure as a volunteer.
The aim of the volunteer project is to create a framework where volunteers can learn local knowledge from the elders of Ketambe
- Learn agricultural practices and help in the gardens of Ketambe
- Learn about the local language and culture
- Become become involved with creating products for locals to sell
- Gain an understanding of how generations have survived and thrived in the highlands of the Leuser ecosystem.
HOMESTAY PROGRAM
We support local families to host volunteers, helping them create a space for the volunteers to sleep, assisting with looking after the volunteers during their stay, and creating a program for volunteers so the host families receive support in the home environment.
SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
If volunteers bond with a child during their stay, we will also provide a platform on which the volunteer can continue to support the child and nurture their relationship even once the volunteer has left Ketambe; this could be through donations that help to pay for school supplies, clothes, tutors and educational support.
